The annual spring lantern parade

Supported by Fairheads International Trust Company. Some of the research aspects of this project (which initially included collecting oral histories and using them as part of the narrative performances) were also funded by the NRF.

The aim of the Clanwilliam project has been to evoke the performative aspects of indigenous narratives and make them accessible to the community of Clanwilliam. On average between 350 and 500 school children participate in the project each year and the event culminates in a lantern parade through the streets of Clanwilliam, attended by several thousand people. The project is run in collaboration with the Living Landscape Project, Jazzart, Namjive and the Drama Department at UCT.
